Event Details

Bay Area resident and North Dakota native, Angela Hunkler, is an artist from her early primary school days, being encouraged to “draw outside the lines,” Hunkler has been into expressionistic mixed media, collage, garden stick, and ink and mythological birds. Her mentors are Otto Dix, Kathe Kollwitz, and the modern Japanese scroll artists. She’s exhibited from Fargo to New Orleans, plus many venues in Northern California.

Since moving to the Jingletown area of Oakland, she’s sketched with strong brush strokes the post-industrial neighborhood including the Cemex cement plant, Miller’s mill, and the Park Street bridge along with nesting birds. Jingletown has given new and surprising meaning to her art; especially the tidal channel with its various hues and daily tidal changes have inspired her latest set of paintings.

Paintings will be displayed at PHOENIX Alameda through January 31st.
